How to buy from China through pluck. — a beginner's 5-minute guide
3 min read
If you've spent ten minutes on TikTok lately, you've seen someone unbox a haul from Chinese sellers. The process looks complicated from the outside, but the actual moves are predictable once you've done it twice. Here's the version we wish someone had handed us on day one.
Step 1 — Find something on pluck.
Browse the product feed or pick an outfit you want to copy. Every listing carries its source link, real price in CNY and your local currency, and the QC photos other buyers received. pluck. itself does not sell — it's a discovery layer pointing at sellers on Weidian, Taobao, and 1688.
Step 2 — Pick a shopping agent
A shopping agent buys the item for you in China, receives it at a warehouse, takes QC photos, then ships internationally. Common ones we link to: KakoBuy, CSSBuy, Sugargoo, CNFans, ACBUY, OOPBuy, Hubbuy, Superbuy, Mulebuy, Hoobuy, and a dozen smaller ones. New buyers usually start with whichever is most active in their region — see our agents overview before committing.
Each agent's link button on a product page already encodes the product so you don't have to copy URLs.
Step 3 — Place the order with your agent
Log into the agent's site (or app), confirm the size and color, and pay. The agent debits the seller in CNY and adds a service fee — usually 5-10%. You also pay a small payment processor fee (PayPal, card, or Wise) and any domestic China shipping the seller charges.
Step 4 — Approve QC photos
The seller ships to the agent warehouse first. When the package arrives, the agent photographs it — labels, stitching, sole patterns, color. You decide: ship it, or send it back. This is your strongest moment of control. Don't approve photos you're not happy with — see 12 red flags in QC photos for what to watch.
Step 5 — Submit for international shipping
Once you have multiple items in the warehouse (or just one), choose a line: DHL Express, EMS, sensitive economy, or others. Cost depends on weight, volume, and route to your country. Express is 3-10 days. Economy is 15-45 days. The agent shows you exact pricing before you confirm — see our shipping breakdown for tradeoffs.
What you actually pay
For a single hoodie under $40, the math typically lands at: item ~$30, agent service ~$2, payment fee ~$1, domestic China shipping ~$1, international shipping ~$15-25. Add roughly 10-25% on top of the sticker price.
Common questions, answered
No, you don't need a Chinese phone number for most agents. No, pluck. does not take payment for the item — that happens inside the agent. Yes, returns are theoretically possible but only practical before international shipping. Read our FAQ for the rest.
That's the entire workflow. Most first orders take 2-4 weeks door-to-door. Most second orders feel routine.
